Somatic Cellular Release Therapy
This is a paper that I wrote in 2012 at the end of my 13 month long Somatic Cellular Release (SCR) Coaching course. I want to share it here with you today to provide a deeper understanding of the work it is that I do. Although my methods and my practice have evolved dramatically since writing this paper, the words herein are the foundation for which I have built my practice on.
“Unlocking the emotional keys of your past will open the doorway
to a new consciousness of living a life of joy, happiness and love.”
The purpose of this paper is to describe the coaching therapy of Somatic Cellular Release. Somatic Cellular Release (SCR) is the body-centered methodology developed by Beverlee Garb of Sole Purpose International. SCR helps “…people access the ‘truth about their past’ through their cellular memory. Once the ‘truth about their past/ is made accessible, it becomes an invaluable tool to knowing and living a life of purpose…the body holds all of our past memories and trauma and . . .if these memories and traumas are not released, they will block our efforts at life purpose manifestation and will threaten our physical and emotional health.” (Garb, 2011)
“. . .Cellular Memory is the complete blueprint of your existence…Each point within your cellular memory contains all the information of the whole. This information is infinitely accessible to each and every cell of your body. If you magnify your cells down to your atoms, you would see that you are made up of subtle bundles of "info-energy." This info-energy is comprised of physical, mental and emotional data that comes from all of your life experiences, genetic heritage, and past generations. Nothing we experience escapes being imprinted into our Cellular Hologram in the form of a cell memory. What we commonly refer to as "The Cellular Memory" is the collective energy field generated by these individual cell memories. It operates behind the scenes of our subconscious mind.” “The Cellular Memory pre-disposes or, "programs" you to perceive and behave a certain way as thoughts and feelings are made manifest within your consciousness…Stored within the Cellular Memory are all the conscious and unconscious patterns of behaviors. The unproductive patterns impair our ability to feel well, happy, healthy, attain our goals and fulfill our destiny.” (Diaz, 2010)
SCR is the process of identifying and releasing emotional traumas from childhood experiences that have been stored in the cells of our bodies. These unconscious memories of painful experiences create our current reality. In essence, we are unconsciously creating our lives. This reality may include but is not limited too; chronic pain, daily frustrations, bursts of anger, difficult relationships, stalled growth and/or the feeling of “living in a rut”.
Do you suffer from chronic pain? “One of the more obvious indications that your feelings and thoughts are inharmonious or out of sync with natural laws is when health problems appear. . .Pain of any kind lets you know that you are out of tune with the natural laws. God is trying to communicate to you through your body, and pain is one sure way He gets your attention.” (Truman, 1991, 2003)
I suffered from chronic pain for close to 27 years. I visited every doctor, tried every conservative method available and took every pill out there to try and numb the pain. Only when I began to connect with my body and listen to what it was trying to say to me did I finally begin to have some relief from the pain. The method that I used to connect with the emotions stored in my body was SCR. Through SCR I have been able to overcome my chronic pain.
“It is estimated that at least 85 to 90% (if not more) of all physical problems have psychological roots. We all know that tension can cause headaches, fear can cause breathing restrictions, nervousness can cause sweaty palms, etc. It is clear that there is a definite relationship between our emotional and our physical self. Our emotions affect the physical body. Emotional healing has the potential to go a long way towards physical healing.” (Winterton, 2007-2012)
Our childhood hurts are screaming out to be released. That is why life seems so difficult. I see two (2) major things at play in people right now:
When we are created our DNA is PERFECT, as we experience trauma an energetic band wraps around the DNA distorting it (Truman, 1991, 2003) – over time these bands create tentacles that wrap up through our spine covering all of our DNA thus distorting it further. I explain these bands and tentacles as an energetic parasite that is existing soley off of your deep rooted unresolved emotions. Once this happens we no longer have a sense of the perfection that already is within us because it is so deep under all of these traumatic experiences we lose touch with who we truly are and why we are here.
“Dr. Deepak Chopra, M.D., indicates in his book, Perfect Health, that cells’ memory of perfection contained in the DNA cannot be lost. It is only covered over, at which point the perfect blueprint of the cell is distorted.” (Truman, 1991, 2003)
2. When we experience a traumatic event our soul fragments. So not only does the energetic band wrap around our DNA – but the piece of us that experienced the traumatic event fragments from our soul and disconnects from the light. It is as though this inner child of ours falls down a well and can no longer see the light or any possible way of escape. The only way the inner child knows how to get our attention is to attract events that are similar to the initial experience. In doing so the inner child is hoping to be seen, heard, allowed to feel what it couldn’t at the time, and then released and pulled up out of the Well and ultimately integrated back into our Soul.
I see the fragmentation of the soul as illustrated below:
The illustrations shows our Soul at the center is in the light, the small orb’s surrounding our soul are pieces of our Soul that have fragmented from the whole and disconnected from the light.
The work I do with SCR helps to 1. Unravel the energetic bands making space for the new consciousness to enter your body and 2. Reintegrate the fragments of your soul that have disconnected from your Whole Soul. Through the approach of SCR I am able to quickly help you see this about yourself and I am able to help you heal your life consciously. I believe strongly that no one else can heal us but ourselves. I am simply a facilitator in shifting your perception, giving you a new vision and paradigm through which to see your life. In doing this, you will heal your life and begin to live your life on purpose.
Exactly how does SCR help you ask? There are six stages to the process of SCR. Each stage is important to the whole, without each step in the process you would be missing a link in the chain. What are the six stages of SCR?
Six Stages to Healing your Life through Emotional Healing
If given the opportunity would you rather Unconsciously Manifest or Consciously Manifest?
I have seen through the eyes of my children how we can Consciously Create. My children are able to draw people to them who benefit them and help them grow as people. My children are able to recognize when something feels inauthentic and move away from this situation. I did not grow up this way. I am guessing that most children of my generation and generations prior to mine did not grow up this way either. We were instructed that children were to be seen and not heard. Unfortunately this did not leave much room for children to live in their truth.
In order to heal it is necessary for us to traverse the childhood emotional experiences that molded our beliefs. Through this practice we will be able to identify and heal your triggers at their core. The first step of identifying and accepting your Core Wounding is the Conscious Awakening.
Stage 1: Conscious Awakening
I have found in working with clients there is an initial resistance to the idea of a Core Wounding. It is challenging for people to accept mentally, but when allowing the body to speak and feel it is undeniable. Our adult mind seeks to fight the process, instead arguing that we have already dealt with our childhood wounds and can now rationalize all that transpired. Unfortunately this is a power play by the mind. When we actually being to sink into the body to feel, we find that there are childhood wounds that still exist. Triggers, irritations, frustrations, strained relationships, depression, chronic pain, and the like are indicators that we do indeed have a Core Wounding. “. . .core beliefs usually form when we are very young. When something happens to us, we interpret the experience and give personal meaning to the situation. Then we confuse what really happened with our interpretation of what did. The story we make up based on that mixture of fact and fiction becomes our truth and an operating principle in our lives.” (Tipping, 2009)
I will show you this wounding by pulling what I call the Golden Thread of Truth which runs throughout your body. We will start with an irritation, a trigger that is setting you off in your day to day life. This can be another person, circumstance, event or occurrence in your life. From here we will pull the thread backwards in time to the initial experience that caused you to feel this way. This experienced feeling created a belief that you now built your life on as truth. At each moment in your life that you have experienced something traumatic you created a belief that is now playing on the record in your head. Right, wrong or indifferent a belief was born.
“We can change our thoughts and this can change our feelings and our actions. However . . . if the thoughts are caused by unresolved, deep seeded feelings that are governing our existence, the thoughts will recur time and time again until we resolve the core feeling.” (Truman, 1991, 2003)
This leads to our next stage in the process, resolving our core feelings. This is done through the process of grieving.
Stage 2: Conscious Birth
Once we have identified and accepted our Core Wounding we will grieve our wounding. The grieving process is a time of allowing the body to truly feel the emotions that have been held captive in your cellular memory. This can be described as an accent through the birth canal with the force of energy moving you away from your Core Wounding. The more emotion that is put into motion throughout your body the further away you will move from your core wounding. “Feeling the feelings is the second stage in the . . . process, and it usually arises as a consequence of telling the story. (The Core Wounding story) This step requires that we give ourselves permission to feel the feelings we have around a given situation – and to feel them fully. If we try to forgive using a purely mental process – thus denying that we feel angry, sad, or depressed for example – nothing happens.” (Tipping, 2009)
When we really sink into our feelings they can be overwhelming. It is important to know that this is a time of selfcare and empathy for one self. I have had clients become ill during this time, forcing them to slow down and be with what is for them. Understand that this is the body’s way of releasing the toxins created from the emotional traumas that have been held for so long in the body. You will require rest and sleep during this phase of the process, honoring whatever it is your body asks for.
Stage 3: Consciously Cutting the Umbilical Cord
As you move through your grief you will come through to the other side where we will begin to work on shifting your consciousness. In this stage you will be moving past your core wounding and we will move into identifying and understanding your inauthentic skins and your unconscious commitments.
Inauthentic skins are personas that we developed as children in order to navigate through our traumatic emotional experiences. For example, someone triggers you and you go into automatic defense mode. You begin saying and doing things that feel very familiar to you based on your emotional response mode. This response mode represents a skin that you created to crawl inside of that felt safe and secure as a child. You created this skin at such a young age it now feels authentic. It is not authentic though, it is not truly you. It is simply your defense mechanism so that you do not suffer any more pain. It is this pain that we must go into in order to come out the other side. It will be extremely uncomfortable and difficult but in letting yourself sink into the pain you will finally release it from your being. As you release the pain that created the persona you will eventually begin to feel that this skin is inauthentic and overtime you will begin to recognize when you slip it on, it will no longer feel like it is the right fit. Once you are able to identify the inauthentic parts of yourself, you will begin to release them and live as your true self.
Unconscious commitments are beliefs we have created due to our traumatic emotional experiences. Examples of unconscious commitments are: Life is difficult, I am not worthy, People are mean, The world is a scary place. These are beliefs that you have unconsciously created and are stored in your cells.
“Every Feeling, every thought – every emotion we experience sends a message to each cell in our body. Some message are more intense and more deeply-seeded than others, but, each cell is nonetheless affected, either adversely or conversely (negatively or positively). It is not necessary for us to be consciously aware of the message that our cells are receiving. The cells are being affected. Each DNA and subsequently, each cell is impacted by every feeling, every thought . . . every emotion we experience. The message response from these feelings/thoughts (emotions) that was sent to the cells of the body is registered in the DNA of the cell. The depth and the strength of the message each cell receives is determined by the intensity of the response to the message, and the intensity of the feeling that is connected with it. This message is then imprinted in the memory of each cell and creates an identity and an energy all its own. This cell memory is automatically and unconsciously referred back to when the need arises. This same cell memory, thereby, governs our attitudes and beliefs which then directs our behavior from that point on throughout our life.” (Truman, 1991, 2003) It is at these points that we create commitments about life, right, wrong or indifferent. As we are not able to emotionally understand or digest our experiences as children we created commitments which quite likely no longer serve our adult self. I will help you identify and renegotiate your unconscious commitments, your core agreements that have been dictating your life and you will make new conscious commitments as to how you want life to show up. I will be able to clearly identify distorted beliefs that you have playing on the record in your head of not being worthy, life is difficult or negative thoughts that play over and over in your thoughts. In essence we will change the record in your head and put on a new record that you have Consciously written as an adult. You will now be moving full force towards consciously manifesting your life.
Stage 4: Inner Purpose
Once we have identified and begun the process of releasing your inauthentic skins and unconscious commitments we will move towards identifying your inner purpose. Your inner purpose is your gift that makes you who you are. Inner purpose lies on the other side of your core wounding. It is something you did not get as a child, but it is something you have done unconsciously for your whole life. Now you will be making it conscious. Examples of this are being of service, leadership, being a healer. At this point of the process you will stop “doing” and instead physcially “be” who you a
